Instead, they’re tied to the billionaire’s new Montessori school outside Bastrop, Texas, called Ad Astra, according to documents filed with state authorities and obtained via a Texas Public Information Act request. The world’s richest person oversees an overlapping empire of six companies — or seven, if you include his political action committee. Alongside rockets, electric cars, brain implants, social media and the next Trump administration, he is increasingly focused on education, spanning preschool to college. One part of his endeavor was revealed last year, when Bloomberg News reported that his foundation had set aside roughly $100 million to create a technology-focused primary and secondary school in Austin, with eventual plans for a university. An additional $137 million in cash and stock was allotted last year, according to the most recent tax filing for the Musk Foundation. Ad Astra is closer to fruition. The state documents show Texas authorities issued an initial permit last month, clearing the way for the center to operate with as many as 21 pupils. Ad Astra’s website says it’s “currently open to all children ages 3 to 9.” The school’s account on X includes job postings for an assistant teacher for preschool and kindergarten and an assistant teacher for students ages 6 to 9. To run the school, Ad Astra is partnering with a company that has experience with billionaires: Xplor Education, which developed Hala Kahiki Montessori school in Lanai, Hawaii, the island 98% owned by Oracle Corp. founder Larry Ellison. Ad Astra sits on a highway outside Bastrop, a bedroom community about 30 miles from Austin and part of a region that’s home to several of Musk’s businesses. On a visit during a recent weekday morning, there was a single Toyota Prius in the parking lot and no one answered the door at the white building with a gray metal roof. The school’s main entrance was blocked by a gate, and there was no sign of any children on the grounds. But what information there is about Ad Astra makes it sound like a fairly typical, if high-end, Montessori preschool. The proposed schedule includes “thematic, STEM-based activities and projects” as well as outdoor play and nap time. A sample snack calendar features carrots and hummus. While Birchall’s and Balajadia’s names appear in the application, it isn’t clear that they’ll have substantive roles at the school once it’s operational. Musk employees, as well as the general public, can grab snacks at the Boring Bodega, a convenience store housed within Musk’s Hyperloop Plaza, which also contains a bar, candy shop and hair salon. The Warren County Police Chiefs Association has challenged the FBI 's assertion that there is "no known threat" associated with multiple drone sightings in New Jersey. The mystery drones have been spotted over various locations over the Garden State, including near the Picatinny Arsenal , a U.S. military facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump 's golf course in Bedminster. The sightings have sparked fears about security, particularly regarding potential interference with commercial air traffic. "We are shocked by the lack of response or update from Federal and State officials," Chief Scott D. Robb, president of the Warren County Police Chiefs Association, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday. "We do not agree with their response that there is no known threat to the public at this time. It is our stance that just the unidentified drone flying over us is a threat in itself." The association said that multiple unidentified drones have been spotted flying over infrastructure, homes and businesses in Warren County since November. "Police have taken your calls for concerns and honesty have not been able to provide a sufficient answer to ease your minds," Robb wrote. "We assure you that the police community is just as frustrated with the lack of transparency from the federal and state officials." Residents in multiple New Jersey counties began reporting unidentified drones last month, with reports of sightings recently expanding to New York and Pennsylvania as well. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security addressed the drone activity in a joint statement on Thursday. "We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus," their statement said, adding that they will work with the New Jersey State Police to continue investigating these sightings. Senator Andy Kim, a New Jersey Democrat, also voiced frustrations with the FBI's response to the issue in an X, formerly Twitter , post. "Any images or video footage people get, the police urge them to submit to the FBI, but I haven't gotten any follow up yet from the FBI on their investigation and what they've compiled," Kim wrote Friday morning. He added these sightings have been going on for weeks, but there are still a lot of questions left unanswered. "It's hard to understand how with the technology we have we aren't able to track these devices to determine origin and this makes me much more concerned about our capabilities more broadly when it comes to drone detection and counter measures," Kim wrote. Meanwhile, Senator Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, sent a letter to federal agencies on Tuesday calling for "transparency" with the public and New Jersey officials. "It is our shared responsibility to ensure that our airspace is safe and secure, and I am committed to giving New Jerseyans peace of mind about these activities," the senator wrote. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy shared a letter on Friday he sent to President Joe Biden that requested more federal resources to investigate unexplained drone sightings in his state. "The continued reporting of UAS [unmanned aircraft systems] activity has raised more questions than answers and prompted an outcropping of conspiracy theories across social media and other platforms," the Democratic governor wrote in the letter, which he shared on X. Senator Richard Blumenthal , a Connecticut Democrat, voiced concerns about the drones on Thursday, calling for urgent intelligence analysis to identify and, if necessary, eliminate the drones from the skies, especially over airports and military bases. The senator criticized the Biden administration's response, demanding more aggressive efforts to address the situation. "The lack of information is absolutely unacceptable. HALIFAX — A Nova Scotia charity is serving at least 600 free traditional dinners over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to spread a little bit of holiday cheer. The Souls Harbour Rescue Mission is offering a sit-down turkey dinner with all the fixings for people who need "food or friends" at mission locations across the province. It's the first time the group is serving the meals over the holidays since it started providing community service in 2010. Michelle Porter, the CEO, says the charity has been raising funds for Christmas festivities since November and estimates the cost for events during the holiday season is around $1 million. Meals will differ slightly at mission locations across the province, but Porter says all plates will have turkey, potatoes, cranberry, gravy and some vegetables. People who attend will also get a Christmas stocking that includes a mini hygiene set and a few treats like chocolate, gloves and socks. About 400 people will eat today in Lower Sackville, Bridgewater, Truro and Sydney Mines, while Porter estimates 200 people will share a meal together in Halifax on Christmas Day.
